Help fight hunger in America!

One of the things that I like most about being a Walmart mom is having the opportunity to share the wonderful things they are doing to help feed the hungry in the United States. From building markets in areas which were formally food deserts, to associates volunteering at food banks and finally the partnerships with Feeding America to provide food for food deprived Americans.  Today I’d like to share the Spring Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign.

Walmart is working with six suppliers to help Feeding America secure 75 million meals for affiliate food banks across the country, to provide hunger relief to the millions of individuals who don’t know where their next meal will come from at some point during the year.

Through the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, Walmart is working with six suppliers — Campbell’s, ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Kellogg Company, Kraft, and Unilever — to give millions of customers an opportunity to help fight hunger in local communities.  This campaign is started April 6th and continues through May 3rd.

There are 3 ways you can get involved to help fight hunger!
  • Purchase: Purchase one of 239 participating products in Walmart stores nationwide and the supplier will make a donation to help Feeding America secure a meal on behalf of a local food bank. For every item purchased, a meal will be secured for the local Feeding America food bank.*

  • Donate: You can donate on behalf of a local Feeding America food bank at the cash register during check out.

  • Share: Grab your friends, family or co-workers and take a picture of six people who share their commitment to fighting hunger. Then, publish the picture on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.  Make the post public and include the hashtag #WeSparkChange. For every public post connected to the hashtag #WeSparkChange, Walmart will donate $10, up to a maximum donation of $1.5 million, to Feeding America and their member food banks.
Walmart is kicking off the effort with an initial $1.5 million donation and has a goal of donating a total of $3 million, enough to help secure 30 million meals, to Feeding America and their member food banks.
Help Walmart reach this goal by posting multiple pictures, tagging your friends and giving them a 48 hour challenge to do the same.
I am attending a day party this weekend called Celebrate and I personally plan to try to post at least 10 photos during the party and raise $100 to help feed the hungry. I hope you make a personal goal to join Walmart and help feed the hungry in your local community.
*DISCLAIMER: For every participating product purchased at Walmart between April 6th and May 3rd, 2015, the manufacturer will donate $0.10 to Feeding America® - enough to secure 1 meal on behalf of local food banks - up to each manufacturer’s maximum donation.  Each manufacturer’s maximum donation is provided on the participating packages.  See package or for details.
