Valentine's Day baking for your child's class

In this last Valentine's Day post I'd like to focus on Valentine's gifts for your child's class.  I don't know about you but home baked goods sound much more appealing to me than a generic card! My son actually helped make these tasty treats so they are made with love by him for his classmates.

I was provided with a Nestlé Tollhouse cookie brownie kit and Valentine's morsels by Walmart.

I also took a trip to Walmart and purchased a Valentine cupcake liners and a coordinating cupcake box.  After I got home I realized the box only holds 6 cupcakes so another trip to Walmart is necessary, next time I’ll have to pay closer attention to the label.

My son and I got down to business by preparing the brownies and the cookies according to the directions on the box. He was able to do all of the brownie mix on his own because it only requires hand beating.

Rather than having a big mess, I took over the preparation of the cookies (my son encouraged me to do so but I let him think it was his idea).

Instead of using the chips that were in the cookie brownie kit we used Valentine’s morsels for a festive flare. After placing the liners in a muffin tin we evenly divided the brownie mix in the 12 cups and topped them with a rounded tablespoon of the cookie dough.

We placed them in the oven and baked for 20 minutes and checked for browning of the cookies. After an additional 5 minutes of cooking, they were done!

My son had a very difficult time waiting for the cookie brownies to cool. We made this as a test batch and clearly will need to purchase another box for Valentine’s Day because the kit only makes 12 cookie brownies. Based on my son’s reaction I assume they taste delicious. I decided against tasting them because I’ve been working on decreasing my sugar intake.

Overall, I think this is a great idea for a class gift and it certainly was fun having my little helper assist in making them!
