BTS: Duck Tape Craft - Folders!

Admittedly I am no Martha Stewart. It is rare that you will find me writing about a DIY project unless it is so simple even a toddler could do it. And today, my friends, is one of those days. This is a craft that is just about impossible to mess up! Using duck tape, a pair of sissors and folders, I was able to make some really cute personalized school folders for my son.

I am familiar with the grey duck tape that is commonly used for random fix-it projects but imagine my surprise when I visited my local Walmart and saw an entire array of patterns! Duck Tape obviously can be used for a number of different things and this sparked my interest in putting it to use for a Back To School project.

I simply identified two patterns that my son will go crazy about - pirate skulls and fire (reminiscent of Hot Wheels his favorite toys in the entire world) and picked up two plain black folders from the Back to School section at Walmart. If you have an older child (my son is five), I'm sure this craft is easy enough for them to do. But the thought of letting my five year old loose with duck tape gave me heart palpitations so I took on this task myself!

I simply lined up the duck tape on the folder, placed it on the folder and neatly finished it off by cutting it and folding it over on the inner pocket of the folder. Easy! I repeated the process until the entire folder was covered!

This really is the simplest task and I personally like these designs so much better than the kittens and other random things I saw on the folders in the store. This craft takes 15 minutes at most to complete and most importantly there is no mess!

The same technique can be applied to making book covers - simply cover the paper you are using to cover the book with your favorite duck tape pattern! This is a craft that I am sure to be repeating in years to come!
