Walmart Locally Grown

Look what caught my eye during my visit to a Walmart in my area! Locally grown produce! Last year I talked about Walmart and the commitment to locally grown and this year Walmart plans to double the efforts of 2011. Utilizing locally grown produce supports local growers and helps with sustainability by cutting down on transportation of items which effects the carbon footprint. 

This week at my store cherries and watermelon are being highlighted. 

Clearly the watermelon are a big hit! This bin is almost empty. Since watermelon is a favorite in my household I decided to purchase on and just when I was ready to wrap my lips around a piece....

My son asked for some and of course I could not deny him. That slice of watermelon is nearly as big as my son's head but believe me, that did not deter him from eating it. As a matter of fact.........

He devoured the entire piece! This watermelon is juicy and sweet. The perfect summer treat that I personally am more than happy to indulge  in especially since it is locally grown! Check out your Walmart to see the locally grown produce at great prices!
