Summer Block Party - Healthy Tip of the Day! Grand Prize Giveaway

The Summer Block Party has been a blast but all good things must come to an end. I hope that you utilize the healthy tips that I've provided for you this week and today we are going to finish off the week with a bang. In addition to the Nestle prize pack, today's winner will receive a $100.00 Visa gift card! Read on for more details.

Tip of the Day: Hydrate! The most important drink during the summer (and really in every season) is water. It is so important to prevent hydration by drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. When my son and I go to the playground and he is running around in the hot sun, I bring stainless steel canteens filled with water for both of us. As much fun as it is to enjoy the summer sunshine, I want to prevent heat exhaustion and other problems that can arise from lack of hydration.

My healthy tip is to slowly introduce whole grain products into your children's diets so they barely notice and get used to it. For example, when I made pasta, the didn't like the whole grain, so I started by making 3/4 regular pasta, and 1/4 whole grain. After a few times it was half and half. Now they eat the whole grain and have never said a word about it.

We all know that we're supposed to drink 8 glasses of water a day. And we also know that our body is happier if we drink room temperature water (YUKK!!). But did you know that if you drink room temperature water, that you'll feel fuller than if you drank icy cold water? I didn't believe it until I tried it. Apparently, the cold water cramps your stomach, which feels to you like hunger. Now, don't ask me how the water can still be cold when it gets to your stomach, but I was amazed to see that it really worked.

Studies show the flavonols in cocoa can stimulate the body's production of nitric oxide, which boosts blood flow to the heart, brain, and other organs. One study found that cocoa can thin the blood just as well as low-dose aspirin.
My tip is for exercising. I can jog or walk alot on my leg because of a car accident. I exercise at my local pool 3 times a week. It is a wonderful rountine that if you have bad joints puts alot less presure on them and in the same times gives you a nice workout

My tip would be to go meatless for at least a month or two and see how much better your body feels.

Even if you don't agree with it from an ethical standpoint, with all of the hormones, antibiotics and irradiation, eating meat these days is like making your body a science experiment.

Honestly I felt the difference almost immediately and have never looked back.

Sleep is important, especially deep sleep. If you live in a noisy area, consider white noise machines to reduce the sounds of traffic, etc.
We drink a lot of water, avoid processed foods and eat a lot of fruits and veggies.
This year we planted a garden and it is so convenient. Love it!

Also, tots are watching so be mindful of that!

Make snack size bags of everything. From fresh fruits to finger foods. Do this when you first buy items so that you aren't tempted to just eat from the box. Plus the perfect portions of fresh fruits will be more appealing when you can just grab a little baggy full.. instead of having to cut up the fruit like watermelon, pineapple, etc. If it is quick to grab, it is easier to take along with you.

My tip is to slow down! Being truly healthy means taking time for yourself once in a while, not just the requisite daily sleep. Stop saying "yes" to everything and everyone that "needs" you, and instead do something for yourself, even if it's just a nice hot bath and a glass of wine!

Many thanks!!
