A letter from my future
This week's homework from the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans is to write a letter from my future self - January 2011, to my current self about all of the accomplishments and pitfalls that I experienced in 2010. I've never done anything quite like this but here it goes......
Dear Beautiful Me,
You have always been beautiful even when the weight you carried both physically and mentally covered it up. I am so proud of you for shedding all of the extra baggage you were carrying in 2010. You were consistent with diet and exercise for the entire year and that is quite an accomplishment given your proclivity to on again off again exercise and healthy living. Adding strength training to your exercise routine has given you great muscle tone and definition, you look better in this new decade of your life than you did 20 years ago! The road was not always easy but you stuck it out despite a few setbacks, don't worry this happens to everyone but pick yourself up because you can do this!
Professionally, 2010 was quite a roller coaster. You took chances and were proactive about going after things that you were interested in doing. Although not every effort was successful, you kept in mind the saying that your mother told you repeatedly growing up: "Nothing beats a failure but a try!" Good for you for leaving your comfort zone, because you did opportunities that you never expected presented themselves.
On the home front you finally got around to doing some painting in the house. Although you were still unsure of the "vision" after two and half years you just painted utilizing the knowledge that changing the color is probably the easiest thing you can do if you don't like it. Your son has been thriving staying at home with you full time and kudos to you for finally spending a night away from him with your husband. A big accomplishment after such a long time!
Finally, you have inspired me to continue living the best life ever! You've taken charge of your health and by doing so have extended your life. You set a fine example for your family and friends but most importantly for yourself. Remember this during the difficult times and know that that they are only brief speed bumps in your journey. Again, I am beaming with pride - you've lost 50+ pounds, look and feel great and 2010 was just a snapshot of what the future holds for you.
I love you.

Present Renee, you are awesome. I'm so inspired by your drive!!
i'm not getting around nearly as much as i'd like to or used to, but i'm still reading your tweets on twitter when i'm over there lurking. (like tonight when i was tuning in to see the hilarity folks would say about the grammys. i fell out laughing when you wrote that your son came out dancing on doug e fresh. i could just picture it, ha!)
but anyway. i really like this exercise and just might do it myself. seems like it'd be inspirational and somehow freeing at the same time.
