The Atlanta Flood

Yesterday my girlfriend jokingly said that we all needed to build Noah's Ark since it is raining so much in Georgia. The rain here is unprecedented, It has been raining heavily here for at least four or five days. Today things have reached an apex and the downtown connector highway is flooded. There have been a number of deaths due to the flooding, schools in my county are closed tomorrow and the creek in my backyard has become a raging river. I went outside in the rain to document this experience because there has not been flooding like this in Georgia in 30 years and I am simply amazed by nature.



I am so thankful that we are safe and sound in our home and pray for the families of the people that have lost their lives and for the people that have lost their homes due to the flooding. To all of my readers in the Atlanta area, please be safe!

Yikes! That is a LOT of water! We live right by the Missouri River and Mississippi River so we see flooding fairly often, but it is always scary when it is right in your backyard. Stay safe!

OMG...that is crazy! Very dangerous..I was even nervous for you a couple of times. I was checking out your backyard and am in love with all the green lush. I live in Simi Valley, CA just north of Los Angeles..and it's like a concrete jungle. I live in a condo that I could sell and move anywhere and have beautiful backyard like yours. I hope everything lets up soon. I'm actually stopping in Atlanta before I go to Ashville on Thursday. How is the airport doing? I wonder if we are going to be able to land there...will be sending prayers your way.

Girl you are brave they are now way I am going outside LOL! I am praying that these trees don't Fall on my house! I am not worrying about the flooding I think we will be fine on that part also. BE SAFE!!

Wow that is some monster water...be careful and stay safe Renee. I hope the rains don't cause any more flooding or deaths. I hope that some of that rain trickles down to FL here we need it. Just not all of it...

wow, that is serious raging water in your backyard! I hope ya'll continue to be safe. All the neighborhoods around me have been flooded but so far my neighbordood is still fairly safe.

OMG! That is just scary!! I have been following the weather situation in Georgia since I have tons of friends and family in the Metro area. Girl I really pray for everyone's safety. I truly hope the sun comes out and dries up a lot of that water. Be safe :-)

Keeping you in my thoughts. We had that weather up here in New England last year. At the end of my block is a river that rose to street level and they had to evacuate us. I've never seen the water that high and never want to see it like that again. Please be safe Renee. Keep us posted.

WOW that is a lot of rain. I talk about your blog way too much. My daughter asked me if Ms.Renee was okay with all the rain. I let her check your blog and she just yelled OMG she is gonna be washed away. Imagine the look on the rest of the children's faces. Everyone has watched several times and they all think you should call yourself "The Eye of Georgia" since you let them know what is going on Georgia. The only thing we are seeing on the news is still water and flooded Six Flags. Thank you for being our eyes!

That is really insane! It's a one really powerful stream you have at your backyard! Hope the raining will stop soon so that everybody can get back to their normal lives without worrying about drowning due to these crazy floods. Take care. Martin

You know the brook in my yard was raging as well, but nearly as swollen as yours. We too are on an incline, so we stayed safe. We just dug a bit of a path to help the water flow into the brook from around the property.

One thing you said that gives me hope paraphrase: "last year we were experiencing a drought and this year we have more water than we know what to do with..." I believe that next year our economy will be overflowing giving us more than we know what to do with, since this year and last year have been droughts.
