Earth Month Giveaway!

April is Earth Month and I have to say that I am very happy that the celebration of the place we call home has gone from one day to an entire month. I think that there is still a ton of education that needs to be done to encourage people to take small steps to make this Earth a better place. If you are thinking that it is too difficult or expense to incorporate "green" living into your life I have a few ways that you can do so simply and economically.

My first suggestion is to stop using plastic bags. Did you know each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide? The use of plastic bags has negative effects on the environment, every year marine animals die from consuming plastic and since plastic is not biodegradable they break down into smaller toxic parts that contaminate soil and roadways. You can read more about the cost of plastic bags on the environment on Reusablebags.com.

To stop contributing to this pollution you can simply start bringing your own reusable bags to the grocery store, department store or any other place where you are likely to receive items in a plastic bag when purchased. You can go for basic green bags that most stores actually carry for about $1.00, I have some from Publix and Walmart. But look around your home, you likely have tote bags that you can use for your purchases.

To ensure that I don't leave my bags at home I leave them on the doorknob to my garage and then take them to the car when I am doing shopping. I also leave a couple in the car just in case I have to pick something up and forget to take the bags from home.

Another tip that you can easily incorporate into your life is to use a water filter instead of buying bottled water. You can use a Brita or similar product to filter your water. This will cut down on the plastic bottle waste in the environment. If you sign a pledge to reduce your use of bottled water with Filter For Good you will recieve a $5.00 off coupon for Brita products.

By taking these two easy steps you can cut down on the plastic waste that you contribute to our environment. Thanks to Walmart, all of the ElevenMoms are having a giveaway that will further assist you in your journey to live a greener lifestyle.

The winner will recieve:

One Brita Digital Water Filter valued at :$34.98
One Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstry Cleaner : $74.88
Greenworks Cleaners, White Cloud Recycled Toilet paper and Tide Coldwater Detergent

This prize package has an approxate retail value of $130.00

The upholstery cleaner would be used a lot in our house with 3 animals and two kids!

Recently - I decided to stop buying any type of "chemical" cleaner (I even threw away all my coupons!) and started making my own cleaners and sometimes buying the "green" ones when there is a good sale. We also recycle most everything now and turn down the heat when we leave our house for any reason at all.

I look forward to using those green cleaners. I've heard good things but haven't had a chance to try them yet.

As for what my family is doing... well, we don't drink bottled water, use recycled TP and grow our own veggies, to name a few.

My family already uses the great Green Works products you have listed. I love them. When you clean you do not have a gross smell in the house. It is wonderful. We also recycle, pick up cans that others leave behind, or trash. We need to keep things clean. Happy Earth day.

I look forward to using the Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstry Cleaner the most. With small children and pets, boy howdy we could use a good cleaner!

To go green we recycle, we have a compost bin, we carpool, and we've been slowly changing out all of our light bulbs.

The water pitcher would get the most use.
We use CFLs. ceiling fans, and recycle cans, paper and plastic
I have been using my fabric bags for a while now. My new thing is to use real napkins and quit using paper ones. I have enough fabric napkins that I don't have to launder them but about once a month. I just rub a stain stick across the stains and they can sit right there until laundry day.

I am most excited about the little Bissell cleaner. I only have carpet in a few rooms, so if I rent a carpet cleaner it always seems like such a waste of money. This will be perfect to just do one room or just the stairs with.

Thanks for having the giveaway!

The Bissel Carpet Cleaner would get a lot of use here with 3 kids under 4 constantly staining our carpet! We've been trying to cut down on our garbage -- we have even gotten cloth diapers -- and started using organic dishwashing liquid which is toxin-free...better for us, better for the world.

I would use the water pitcher! Our water tastes funky, so we are very guilty of buying bottled - though we buy the gallons at least, and recycle them! But still, if everyone used a pitcher instead, it would make a huge difference.

Thanks for the chance! :)

I'd love to have the Bissel. With a nearly 2-year-old running through the house, our carpets are getting trashed! :-) Yesterday I found him emptying a bottle of body wash over his bedroom carpet.

We're making small household changes to go green - CFL bulbs, shorter showers, washing laundry in cold water, consolidating errands into single trips.
The carpet cleaner is probably what I need most, but I'm most excited about trying the Greenworks Cleaners. We're trying to eliminate toxins from our household, and I'm interested in different cleaning products that can help us do that. Thanks!

I would get the most use out of the Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstry cleaner since I seem to spill coffe everywhere I go! Our biggest efforts has been using our own bags for shopping and going green with the products we use in our yard since we are surrounded by wildlife and live in the watershed. Plus we have made sure to feed them so the don't munch on the flowers or plants and it seems to be working!

I'm so excited about the chance to win the Bissell Little Green Carpet And Upholstery Cleaner
Because with kids and a poodle the carpet, furniture and my car get a lot of use and I would love to clean up accidents as soon as they happen.

We are trying to do our part on going green by doing weekly curb side recycling, using less plastic, buying concentrates, I also change our dogs water daily and instead of throwing the old water down the drain I water the plants with it.

Thank you

I look forward to using the One Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstry Cleaner most.

It is easy to make your life greener - we have our house powered by solar, our own well and we grow our own food. People do not realize that growing your own food save in lots of different ways including but not limited to save the fuel it take to process and transport the fruits and vegetables - also it is so much healthier for your family.

The Brita water filter would be perfect for me right now because I am trying to break my addiction to soda. Having good quality water that is easily accessible will most certainly help me break the habit and help the environment (fewer plastic bottles). In addition to ending my soda habit, I am trying to get as much of my food as possible from the local farmer's market. I carpool with a friend and we plan weekly meals and share the burden of cleaning and prep work. This fun "girl" time motivates us to stick with it even though sometimes, after a long week, it can be hard to find the motivation to do everything from scratch. Happily. the moment the fresh, local food hits my tastebuds, I am reminded that taking care of Mother Earth is best for all of us!

would definitely look forward to using the Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstry Cleaner the most. I have three little children and even though they don't eat in the family room or wear shoes in the house, the sofa still ends up hiding lots of debris to clean out! We live an eco-conscious lifestyle (conserving and being mindful of water usage, recycling, turning off/unplugging appliances and lights not in use, homemade non-toxic cleaning products, organic and/or local food, CSA membership, using canvas bags for all shopping, using CFLs, etc.). We are constantly coming up with new ways to be green. I continually share knowledge about our precious resources and the environment with my children. Thanks!
