Earth Month Giveaway!
April is Earth Month and I have to say that I am very happy that the celebration of the place we call home has gone from one day to an entire month. I think that there is still a ton of education that needs to be done to encourage people to take small steps to make this Earth a better place. If you are thinking that it is too difficult or expense to incorporate "green" living into your life I have a few ways that you can do so simply and economically.
My first suggestion is to stop using plastic bags. Did you know each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide? The use of plastic bags has negative effects on the environment, every year marine animals die from consuming plastic and since plastic is not biodegradable they break down into smaller toxic parts that contaminate soil and roadways. You can read more about the cost of plastic bags on the environment on Reusablebags.com.
To stop contributing to this pollution you can simply start bringing your own reusable bags to the grocery store, department store or any other place where you are likely to receive items in a plastic bag when purchased. You can go for basic green bags that most stores actually carry for about $1.00, I have some from Publix and Walmart. But look around your home, you likely have tote bags that you can use for your purchases.
To ensure that I don't leave my bags at home I leave them on the doorknob to my garage and then take them to the car when I am doing shopping. I also leave a couple in the car just in case I have to pick something up and forget to take the bags from home.
Another tip that you can easily incorporate into your life is to use a water filter instead of buying bottled water. You can use a Brita or similar product to filter your water. This will cut down on the plastic bottle waste in the environment. If you sign a pledge to reduce your use of bottled water with Filter For Good you will recieve a $5.00 off coupon for Brita products.
By taking these two easy steps you can cut down on the plastic waste that you contribute to our environment. Thanks to Walmart, all of the ElevenMoms are having a giveaway that will further assist you in your journey to live a greener lifestyle.
The winner will recieve:
One Brita Digital Water Filter valued at :$34.98
One Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstry Cleaner : $74.88

This prize package has an approxate retail value of $130.00

We recycle everything that we possibly can.
Thanks
Thanks
Thanks.
Recently - I decided to stop buying any type of "chemical" cleaner (I even threw away all my coupons!) and started making my own cleaners and sometimes buying the "green" ones when there is a good sale. We also recycle most everything now and turn down the heat when we leave our house for any reason at all.
As for what my family is doing... well, we don't drink bottled water, use recycled TP and grow our own veggies, to name a few.

My family has switched to using cloth towels instead of paper, and I use vinegar/water to clean everything.
We are trying to be green by recycling and using cloth napkins.

To go green we recycle, we have a compost bin, we carpool, and we've been slowly changing out all of our light bulbs.

We use our reusable bags when shopping and recycle everything the local recycle center will take (plastic, aluminum, steel, paper, cardboard, glass)

We use CFLs. ceiling fans, and recycle cans, paper and plastic
I am most excited about the little Bissell cleaner. I only have carpet in a few rooms, so if I rent a carpet cleaner it always seems like such a waste of money. This will be perfect to just do one room or just the stairs with.
Thanks for having the giveaway!

We're making small household changes to go green - CFL bulbs, shorter showers, washing laundry in cold water, consolidating errands into single trips.
We compost our kitchen scraps.
We have begun using cloth napkins.

Because with kids and a poodle the carpet, furniture and my car get a lot of use and I would love to clean up accidents as soon as they happen.
We are trying to do our part on going green by doing weekly curb side recycling, using less plastic, buying concentrates, I also change our dogs water daily and instead of throwing the old water down the drain I water the plants with it.
Thank you

It is easy to make your life greener - we have our house powered by solar, our own well and we grow our own food. People do not realize that growing your own food save in lots of different ways including but not limited to save the fuel it take to process and transport the fruits and vegetables - also it is so much healthier for your family.

I am looking forward to trying the Little Green Machine. I have a sick dog that keeps me busy and this would really help out.
My family is sorting the trash now into 4 bins and three of those bins are recyclable.
