Bringing Sexy Back!

I have decided that I need to do something about my slovenly appearance. Yes, I know how to clean up really well and when I am go out to functions I make sure that I look correct. However, when I am running my daily errands around town I look less than stellar. As a matter of fact, I am embarrassed that I am out in public "looking a hot mess." So, I am spending more time doing things that make me feel good both on the inside and out. As you know I participate in the EA SPORTS Active 30 Day Challenge and that really has given me a kick start to improving my physical appearance and health. However, I am not stopping there. I have been wearing make-up more often - not every day but most days to help enhance my natural glow. And I have been doing some interesting things to "bring the sexy" back. That shoe is a hint. No, I am not walking around in five inch stilettos, I am pretty sure that I am unable to manage that but for two weeks I have taken a PoleLaTeaz class that worked on bringing the inner stripper out of me. Yes, you read that right, the inner stripper.

I am sure that you are familiar with exotic dance classes even if you have not attended one. Carmen Elecktra has one on demand with cable, I have reviewed a DVD, and classes are popping up all of the place. I view erotic dancing as something that you can do for your partner but more importantly as something that you can do for yourself. Being sexy is a state of mind that is not contingent on your size or shape and I think taking one of these classes certainly helps get you on the road to the inner sex kitten. I used to belly dance and that art form is less about seduction and more about being in touch with your femininity. As a matter of fact in many cultures women learn to dance as young girls and it is a bonding experience. Of course, exotic dancing has comes from clubs that are all about enticing men but when doing it for yourself it is truly liberating. Not to mention extremely challenging! When I took the classes I looked at it as a dance form and my body did too.

I attended a class with my Mom's group and we had a great time taking a chair dance class. I have to admit when the instructors appeared scantily clad I was taken aback for a moment but as the dancing began all of my initial discomfort left and it was all about the dancing. We started by watching a demonstration and moved on stretching and some sexy floor work. After that we learned a few moves that we can do with the chair and finally we learned a bit of choreography. Coincidentally I was invited to celebrate my bloggy friend Lorraine's birthday and the launch of the Blogrollers at the same venue but this time we took a pole dancing class.

The pole dancing class was similar except we learned how to do the fireman on the pole. For some reason I was a little fearful of swinging on the pole but once I tried it a couple of times I became more comfortable. I have to say in my opinion I did much better with the chair dancing class but I think that is to be expected - it was my first time ever dancing on a pole!

Overall I have to rate the experience in both classes as a ten. I approached the classes as dance classes and had no inhibitions about being sexy at all. I was dancing for myself and in the process loved me exactly as I am at this moment while maintaining the knowledge that I am working on becoming an even better me. If you have a class in your area or have cable on demand I suggest you try it. It really is fun and a great workout (and watch out, according to the women in my Mom's group the last time a class was organized several of the women got pregnant)!

I was nervous - OK, down right scared - too, but it turned out to be so much fun!

Ok. Mr. Man has a retraction. I recently wrote on on my blog the a father's only job in life is to "keep my baby off the pole". This looks like an exception that is empowering, enriching, and rewarding for women when used in the proper context. Hats off!

love it! and I laughed at those shoes! I bought a pair of black patent leather 4 inch babies while on a trip with my husband and then was SO OUT OF PRATICE walking in heels he had to hold onto me the whole time. I looked like a giraffe learning to walk - not quite what I was going for :-)

I've done this sort of class before, and I felt the need to find the closest strip club and five "shout outs" to any dancer I could find, because they W.O.R.K!! I was sore for days, and I was hurting in places that I didn't even know existed...LOL! Good for you, Mama...let sexy RING all up and through you, and when your EA Sports Challenge is done and you're feeling in full effect, you can pass on some of your hot mama shoes to me for inspiration :)

you go ahead on girl!! Bring your sexy back!! I am sure you had a ton of fun. I think we all have an "inner stripper" in us :) You better take the advice of the ladies and watch out before someone ends up with a little sibling! I'm just sayin'....lol :P
You go girl! I don't know if I could do it, but some of my friends have and had a great time!

well oh good heavens. I realize I'm a tad behind in blog hoppin' but to see that you are now pole dancing is quite a shock, I must say.
I'm assuming DH is behind you all the way. heh.
But seriously Renee dear, where's the video?
The best workout I've EVER had was at my pole dancing classes. You move things that, er, um, well... you didn't know you had. Of course, my husband complains that I save all the good stuff for class with the girls... tee hee!

Ok. This is GREAT! Go 'head on girl. You better work what cha mama gave you. You can find "sexy" in so many different places, it just takes a little courage =)
Yes, I've done some of that dance. It is a great workout, but I don't think it contributed to my pregnancy. I did that all on my own.
LOL, I'm sure my husband would like me to take a class like that!

If I really want to put some scare into my husband all I need to do is tell him I'm signing up.
I think he would turn more gray on that I actually did it. lol
I love that you did take the class.
What a great thing to do for yourself and your relationship.

You guys look like you are having so much fun. I am so excited to go pole dancing with my friends celebrating her wedding.

BTW - I received Carmen Electra's dancing videos as bachelorette gift.

Go hot mama! Love the pole. :)
That sounds like a lot of fun. Yet another reason why I would love to move to the Atl. You can't learn how to dance like a stripper in my part of the woods...

"For some reason I was a little fearful of swinging on the pole"

ok, that line just cracked me up!

now see you got me wanting to do this. i've always thought it would be a great experience to swing from the pole a time or two...

i hear ya about the running errands business. i'd said that i was gonna start sprucing up a bit more even just to do the basic stuff around town. when i do it certainly makes me feel more lively.
