A Reminder

If your in-box is anything like mine I am sure you recieve your fair share of junk mail, spam and crazy chain letters.  Yesterday amidst the clutter, I recieved a beautiful poem that I need to share with all parents. A simple reminder that our children are always watching us and everything that we do impacts them. I am not sure of the author however I know it is a modified version of an original poem by Mary Rita Schilke Korzan. Enjoy!

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you hang my
first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately
wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a
stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind
to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make my
favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little
things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make a
meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I
learned that we all have to help take care of each
other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of
your time and money to help people who had nothing,
and I learned that those who have something should
give to others.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you take care
of our house and everyone in it. And, I learned that we
have to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw how you
handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't
feel good. And, I learned that I would have to be
responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come
from your eyes. I learned that sometimes things
hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw that you
cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking I learned most of
life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and
productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I looked at you and
wanted to say,'Thanks for all the things I saw when
you thought I wasn't looking.'

LITTLE EYES SEE A LOT!! Live simply. Love generously.
Care deeply. Speak kindly. Each of us influences the
life of a child.

Today I also have a post on BlogHer.com about the Myth of the Super Mom if you have a moment please read it and share your thoughts.

Gorgeous poem. And, I just took a peek at your Blogher post. So true. Supermoms need a break, too. Put away the cape and curl up with a good book!

Great poem Renee. I just got finished telling my husband that we have to be really conscious about our behavior when we have children because they will emulate what we do.

That's a nice poem Renee. Very heartfelt.

And yes, I do remember Mini Me pissing in the corner. That cast was one of the best Surreal Life's.

Wow: no pressure. :-) That's a great reminder. My 18 month old's vocab is growing and has just started mimicking us in earnest so this is very timely. Thanks for sharing.

Every time that comes through my mailbox, I stop and think.

There's a lot of truth in that.
