In the blink of an eye

Yesterday while Mekhi and I ate breakfast a plane flew overhead. Mekhi looked up toward the ceiling and stated with ease, “airplane.” His enunciation was crystal clear and I was astonished. Immediately I praised him and my heart almost burst with pride. My son has a large vocabulary for a 19 month old and it amazes me how his mind is like a sponge, sopping up information like water. His father taught him about airplanes when we were at the airport last week. While they bonded I fussed with my computer, it was their time and I didn’t pay attention.

Obviously Mekhi did.

He retained everything his Daddy taught him. His days of being a baby are quickly growing short in number.

Today I give myself these words of advice: Be Present. Look. Don’t Blink. You might miss it.

And for Mekhi: The airplane is flying high my son but so are you baby, so are you.

Aw... he's got such a cute little face. Yes, it does happen so very quickly but no matter how old they are, they're always your baby. He'll never *really* grow up :)

Be Present...very key to parenting. My kids often catch me out when I am not listening to them. They want me to listen to their stories. If I slip up, I try again the next day.

Awww *clutches chest* as I prepare to promote Jordan from the dining room table to college, I too wonder where the time went-especially since I'm still so young and full of joie de vivre! :D

How sweet....and they do grow up so fast. One thing though you have to watch everything you say in front of them, because they are surely to repeat what you said at an inappropriate time (lol). I can just see him pointing saying "airplane" I love it!

What a cutie! They grow up so fast. One day my baby girl was toddling along and now she's in to boys, computers, and fashion. Where has the time gone?

You have learned a very valuable lesson, and you're so fortunate that you have discovered it so soon;way too many people don't realize until it's too late.

It's unreal how quickly it goes. I'm glad you're not blinking.
Thanks a lot Renee, now you got me all teary eyed! Treasure every single moment. I sit and sniff William's skin, feel his soft hair, watch him sleep and the list goes on! Everything changes so quickly so we must savor it each and every day :)

In the short time I've known you I can already see your son getting longer in this picture. He is starting to look more like a little boy instead of a toddler. Very cute!

When I was your boy's age, my thing with my Dad was firetrucks.

That has got to feel so good. A part of me cannot wait until my little one start talking, but then again I can. I think he finally figured out that the sound that has been coming out of his mouth is his, because now he will not be quiet. He is only 4 months and everything is dadadada. Sometimes I get a hi, hey, or hot. At least that's what I think he's saying. This parenting thing is too emotional for me.

AWWWW.
I stop today and looked at my youngest in the present for the first time.
We were facing some test for a kidney tumor and I was so scared.
Thank God the test were negative...but I'm thankful for the lesson it taught me.

I do agree wholeheartedly. Those little milestones that our child reaches are the most wonderful things especially when you experience it when they happen. He's growing really fast.

It's all too easy let the tasks of the day eclipse the wonderment and beauty of those important Souls that make our life delicious. My oldest just turned 17, the middle child is 5. I'm much more appreciative of all those little moments of loveliness I share with each of them, as I remind myself that my 17 month old won't be this small, soft and mommy-oriented forever. [sigh]

I appreciate your sprinkling of this wisdom Renee... a nice reminder of what's most important.

What a sweetie. My kids amaze me when they say something new or read something aloud, and I wonder "When did they learn to do that?"

I had no idea how much I was missing with all those blinks...

Yes, my baby is 7 years old and I really don't know how that happened. If I wanted another one, I've messed my spacing up something fierce.
