The Celebration!

We celebrated. Oh yes, we did. Not with the fanfare of an inaugural ball but with a nice intimate gathering that was fun for all. First, Mekhi posed for some photos with my Inaugural '09 cake from Eli's Cheescake of Chicago. That's right, my party cake was flown in from our President's hometown and it was spectacular. Thanks to my friend Kim, I was able to debut this cake at the party. It was a plain cheesecake topped with whipped cream, red, white and blue decorations topped with a disk of white chocolate and a map of Illinois. This cake was absolutely delicious! So light, not too sweet, sheer perfection. It was like a party in my mouth. Seriously.

Having this cake gave me a sense of connectedness to the Inaugural Hoopla in DC because Eli's was also responsible for making a 500 pound cheesecake that was served at the Commander-In-Chief Ball, which honors active duty and reserve military. And in keeping with our President's call for us all to be of service to others, Eli's is donating any leftover cake to the Capital Food Bank. I highly suggest that you try an Eli's cheesecake. You can place an online order for one of these delicious cakes. Please have no reservations about having the cake shipped, it arrives frozen, on dry ice and you can either thaw it for immediate enjoyment or place in the freezer. As an added incentive, use the code Inablog9 and you will receive 15% off your entire purchase! This is not valid with any other offers and is available from now until February 15th.

All of the folks at the party raved, I mean RAVED about the cheesecake. Speaking of the party. Here are a few flicks, please excuse the photo quality. I am really in need of a new camera, the one I have is completely temperamental! The party was held at Club 281, a jazz club in Atlanta, the owner Henry is in the photo. He is one cool cat. *snaps*

We enjoyed cheesecake, had "The Barack" cocktail, and watched history unfold. A beautiful, beautiful day.

And because I can't resist, here is a short clip of my son saying his favorite word!

Mekhi's expression looking at the cake is priceless, that is exactly how I feel when I open a cheesecake!! Looks like you celebrated in style. I watched everything on TV, but I still felt like I was part of it all.

I'm glad the cake was a hit. In my rush to get home from grocery shopping in order to see the swearing in I turned right on a red light where I shouldn't have and got a ticket! Thank goodness for NPR, at least I heard it. I told the officer I was indeed rushing--so I could see the inauguration. He was not sympathetic. Must have voted for McCain.

Goodness! Your son is growing so fast! He's so handsome too! :)
Wow, what a fun celebration you all had! I baked 'Inaugural brownies' myself and prepared a special dinner. It was awesome! We were teary eyed all day long. I think we kept the TV on CNN for 12 hours straight! Mekhi is so adorable :) I know he had to be so excited about the day's events. Look at that cheesecake!!! I have never had Eli's but I have had Jumior's. I am sure they are very close to being the same. I have only heard great things about both.
The cheesecake looks fabulous but the video of Mekhi saying Ohmbahbah is awesome.

I think it was a special day, unlike anything else we're likely to experience in our lifetimes. And apparently the only thing I was missing to make it even better was a piece of that cheesecake!

That was great! The cake looked delicious & I am very curious as to what is in a "Barrack" cocktail.

The video is great! I tried to teach my son that yesterday, but he was too busy playing. Oh well...I tried.

Very sweet. Very cute. "Uh-ba-ma."

That cake looks great and sounds damn fine. I love me some cheesecake.

My wife and I were just talking last night that we need to get some Obama shirts. The theatre I work, several of the people there have shirts like the one you are wearing. Very cool.

This is so wonderful - the video is priceless. Whenever my 3yo son says the President's name, it sounds like, "Uncle Obama." Some people in my neighborhood actually think Obama's related to us - don't get me started on that - anyway!

Thanks for sharing!

President Obama has that effect on kids! My daughter literally squeals whenever she sees him. I have to admit, so do I! :)
