I Did It Early

This presidential election is one for the history books. Regardless of who wins history will be made. We will either have the first female Vice President or the first African - American President in the White House. And I have to admit that I didn't think I would see this day in my lifetime - well at least not before I was an octogenarian.

I know that Dr. Martin Luthur King, Jr. had a dream but the dream has been deferred for women and people of color for so long I really have been pretty pessimistic about the whole thing. This Presidential Election truly is that dream come true. Another truly refreshing aspect of this election is the increase in political participation by the American public. I cannot remember another election that has had so many people talking, learning about the issues and adamant about "their" candidates. I cannot wait to see the number people that come out to vote on election day.

But I do not want to be out there. On Election Day. At the polls. I have a feeling that all of the new voters and the momentum caused by the election will be reflected at the polls next Tuesday. Rather than make myself crazy waiting in line for who knows how long I decided to vote today. Here are some photos from the experience.

I am proud to say that after waiting in line for an hour and a half (45 minutes in the freezing cold) I excercised my right to vote. And although I don't use my blog to push any political candidate, I hope that the best man wins.

I want to end by saying regardless of your political party I implore you to Get Out and Vote! Every vote matters. Our nation is depending on you!

"Another truly refreshing aspect of this election is the increase in political participation by the American public".

Indeed. This is likely compounded by candidates that more accurately represent and resonate with the American public. I am mostly apolitical, in the world and on my blog-but the sociological impact of this election has captivated me. I'm eagerly anticipating change.

You look lovely as ever in your tee and jeans!

I love your t-shirt! After looking at your picture I'm getting up very early on election day to beat the crowd. But even if I have to stand for an hour or more, it will be well worth it! Gotta get a t-shirt. You took a really nice picture.

 for voting early! I am doing it by absentee ballot.

My hubby and I are heading out to vote early today. I haven't been this excited about something in a while! It feels so good to be able to cast my vote and literally make history :)
You look awesome and proud in your shirt!

What I love about you Renee, is that although you obviously support your candidate with great ferver, you do it in a way that shows your main concern is about this country, and you don't alienate any of us crazy conservatives!

I hope our lines aren't that long on election day! Luckily I'm in a small town!

It's great that you did the early voting :-) My relatives back in Georgia have also done early voting. I finally was able to get my absentee ballot sent off last week after many delays in them sending my ballot. As you said, it is just SO important to vote. Great post!

I spent my two-and-a-half hours in line last week. It was worth it. I checked and re-checked and checked again to make sure I'd selected my candidate of choice (and yours.) It was a pretty overwhelming moment for me, honestly. Never thought I'd see the day...

Congrats on the voting!! We are being procrastinators this year. your blog is super cute cant wait to read more of it!

Hope, not fear!!!

I'm voting absentee (no early voting in Michigan)...but I am hand delivering it this time, instead of mailing it in. I don't want to deal with the crowds either, especially since I live in a very Republican part of town, not sure I could handle all of the conservative chit-chat while I wait in line with a 4 year old in tow ;)

Election Day falls on my bday this year...so my guy has to win, right? ;)

Swing by my blog, I'm having a giveaway:)

We don't have early voting here. *sigh* I'll be in the lines next Tuesday with (hopefully) lots of other people. It is a momentous election.

You're right: this is a very historial time. And, like you, I never thought I would see the day. We can actually say -- and mean it! -- to our children, black boys and little girls, that they can one day be president. I am going to vote before Friday because I have surgery on that day. OMG! I can't believe it was scheduled for that day and I can't miss this. I have my absentee ballot and will take it down there tomorrow.

Love the photo and the shirt!

I'm lucky there's only about 500 people in my town. Or maybe I'll be unlucky and all 500 will show up and the town hall at once!

lol@ "You Baracked The Vote". that's one i'd never heard.

Nice shirt... still I kind of wish you would have told us who you voted for.

Hey can I use your image on my blog again?... good cause I already did it ;)

I am praying that the lines are not crazy on Election Day!! I am too nervous to vote early in Indiana because the RNC is filing motions with the Indiana Supreme court to try and overthrow the early voting. I don't want my vote to end up a hanging chad!
i toyed with the idea of voting early but I am going out on the 4th so the girls can go and wait for hours. My hubby and I believe in teaching our kids (the hard way sometimes) about why it is so important to vote. From what I hear, the lines are still quite long with the early voting and your pictures prove that~! Let's all just hope and pray that the best person win this election (GO OBAMA!!)
oops, forgot to mention how awesome you look!! Hott mom alert!!!

YOU GO GIRL! Thanks for commenting on my voting post today. Wow, we were thinking alike! Great minds...hmmm? I know our shirts say different names, but it is so refreshing to know that others support my right to wear it!

Hey Renee,

Kudos to you. We are in Michigan and have to wait until Nov 4. But just like the Jacksons "I'll Be There".

I love that people are willing to stand in huge lines just to vote! We don't have early voting, except by absentee ballot. I enjoy going to polls too much to send my vote in by mail!

I'm waiting for the excitement of election day. I live in a smaller city with 12,000 people, so the lines are never that long. LOVE your pics!

And, if you don't mind me commenting...let's hope we do NOT see our first female VP. I'm afraid if those two get in there we're doomed.
GOBAMA!

Love the shirt, and this post. I was too excited to wait, so I had to get out and vote early. I am glad so many others are taking advantage of this opportunity. I just wish everyone would and then we wouldn't have to wait till Nov. 4th to know who won!
