Baby Love

The most recent photo of me and Mekhi was taken by my computer. You know how it is. Mom is usually the one behind the camera not in front of it. And this photo reminds me so much of our profile picture that I thought it would be nice to post the update. Of course Mekhi is my baby love and apparently he has found some baby love of his own.

Happy Baby

I love the sound of my son’s laughter. It is pure, unadulterated joy. Now that he is a toddler the world has changed for all of us. He is asserting himself, testing me (mostly) and other people in his life, truly coming into his own. His personality has not changed much since he was an infant. He has a very joyful disposition and I am told that he is very easy to watch by my babysitters. He also is feisty. If he does not get his way he is very persistent and tries to break me down. His tactics generally don’t work but you can’t fault the boy for trying.

His personality especially shines when he is alone entertaining himself. One of my favorite times of the day is when he wakes up from a nap or a full nights rest and he takes some time to enjoy his own space in his crib. I frequently hear joyful laughter as he “reads” a story or plays with his Teddy Bear “baby.” Until recently he did not have a lovey but he surprised me yesterday when he asked for baby.

He and I read all of the time and I think that is how he named his bear. One of his favorites is Babycakes, I have been reading this to him since he was in uterro and it remains a favorite. In the book a little boy has “baby cakes” a bear that he plays with and cuddles at night. Mekhi and I act out the scenes from the story and he knows it by heart.

Another book that we read is Please, Baby, Please. This book is beautifully illustrated and chronicles a day in the life of a toddler named “Baby," tantrums and all. Mekhi adores this book and asks me to read it several times a day and never tires of the story. He has both adopted “baby” the Bear and the Baby of his books.
Seeing him interact with them always brings a smile to my face. And many times a tear because my baby is growing up so fast. If I blink I am afraid I will miss it.

How sweet! I love watching Ellie with her "babies;" isn't it absolutely adorable how caring and tender they can be at this age?

By the way, I LOVE your "Subscribe Girl!"
He is gorgeous! That picture of both you is great too, you both look really happy!
What a beautiful post. I'm pretty sure I've only blinked once and now my babies are almost 3. How did that happen? :)

Those sound like great books, we'll have to pick them up on our next trip to the library.

Love the new picture too.

Hope Mekhi is feeling better.

They grow up very fast don't they?
It seems just yesterday I found out I was pregnant and now he already eats alone and says "please" and "thank you"... *sigh*

But its wonderfull to see them growing :)

He's got mama's eyes! So beautiful!

I had a picture taken like that of my son and I at the zoo when he was barely 1 and I have yet to really have too many pictures taken of us because I am ALWAYS the one behind the camera.

My son is almost 5 and it was a blink of an eye, a change of a season, and bam! He goes from newborn to 5 without my permission!

Love the pic! You all looks so cute!
I blinked and mine are almost 9 and 7!!! Where did it go? Your baby is so cute and what a sweet post.

Great picture! I take pictures like that all the time with my Mac Photobooth! You are right...it is the only time I am in a picture!

My daughter loves to read. We are constantly buying her new books because she gets bored with them quickly.

I love the pictures! Toddlers are something else, aren't they? A lot of what you wrote reminds me of my Anna. She is fiesty, bossy, manipulative, but the cutest little thing ever. She has a lovey too and she is oh so busy. You talking about his laugh makes me smile thinking about how Anna sounds -- they probably sound similar. She also likes to enjoy time in her crib. So sweet... thanks.

I love those times when they think no one's watching. It's a chance to see who they really are!

Aw... How sweet, the two of you.
A long, long time ago, I heard those quiet voices cooing from his crib. I would sit outside his door just to listen until there was a lull.
When I walked in the room, I was always greeted with a big smile and outstretched arms. He wanted to share his "lambie" and book.
It does happen so quickly but the great thing is that we can still hear those voices, see that face in our minds and hearts. Wouldn't it be horrible to have no memory?

Isn't it great you get to stay home with him and enjoy all the wonderful things that he does? :)

Great picture of both of you!

I remember my older boy at this age, and it seems like just last month... except he's now in his freshman year of college! The years really do fly by. Enjoy your "baby love" and those baby laughs while they last! Every age has its own wonders, but there's nothing quite like that baby laugh.

Aww, so precious =). Don't blink girl, you might miss the moment he aspires to take over the world, haha.

Miss J. has the Please Puppy Please book and you are right, those books are very vivid and beautiful. If you don't have that one I am sure Khi would love it.

What a nice pic... Keep on taking them 'cause I just recently looked at my daughter's baby pics and I'm in very few of them :(
Lots of daddy and them, 'cause of course Mom is always the one BEHIND the camera.

I love your latest pic! I'm so happy that my kids love books too--it's great to be able to share one of my greatest interests with them and I look forward to the days when we can read the same books & compare notes.

He looks just like you! You did an incredible job introducing books early. I didn't, and my sons treat books like toys. My preschooler is just starting to get in to them, it's a shame.

how bright he is! :-)

it's so neat seeing babies grow physically as well as in the way they relate to the world. it's always so interesting to me that at such young ages they know what it takes and what to do to get what they want...or at least try. some babies i know can be so manipulative and sneaky! cracks me up every time. but like you say, can't fault 'em for trying.

I love the updated pic. You should take them, same pose over a period of time. That would make an awesome album!

Y'know I remember feeling that sense of impending doom as my children neared the end of different stages, infants, toddlers et al. Now, nearing adulthood with my oldest, I realize that there are still things that they say or do that I still thoroughly enjoy. It doesn't end, it just changes. He'll always be your baby, but tell grandma that duck costume business may not go over as well going forward! :D
He is so adorable! Enjoy every minute because it does go by so fast - however, each year just gets better and better!

Just wanted to let you know that after consulting with my two best helpers for letters of the alphabet, you have the letter "G" if you were interested in joining in on the meme! Have fun with it ~ come let me know when it's up!

The picture is beautiful! And what a sweet post! So many people get caught up in the job of parenting that they miss some of these special times.

You are both gorgeous! My son is a book lover, too, and it makes me so happy to share that with him. I can't wait until he's older, and we can start reading bigger books together.

enjoy every moment as time does go fast...my "babies" are now 17 and nearly 19...and it seems like only yesterday that they were playing with their teddies and special toys :)

I know what you mean...they take these developmental leaps that are both exciting and saddening. You get thrilled to see them come into their own, but sad because the time when they need you so much is getting less and less. Parenting is both frightening and wonderful!

I have an award for you at my blog :)

He's absolutely adorable and will be breaking hearts before you know it.

Even with all the challenges of defiance and toddler tantrums, I love this stage. Keep enjoying every minute of it.

You've also inspired me to take some computer pics of J and I. I'm not in many of her pics either.

Ugh! They grow too fast!! I never realized that Motherhood would make me so weepy and mushy! I am going to look for those books, they sound great!

This is beautiful. My daughter must be about the same age. We read Courduroy and I got her the bear and she says Courd and wants to take him to bed. We spend 10 minutes the other day looking for him (mom left him the car) before naptime. She likes to read to him, give him food and drinks. It is very cute. She also didn't do this until very recently.
