The Thrill is Gone?

“It's Close To Midnight And Something Evil's Lurking In The Dark
Under The Moonlight You See A Sight That Almost Stops Your Heart
You Try To Scream But Terror Takes The Sound Before You Make It
You Start To Freeze As Horror Looks You Right Between The Eyes,
You're Paralyzed

'Cause This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
And No One's Gonna Save You From The Beast About
Strike”

- Michael Jackson, Thriller

(Go ahead, sing along you know you want to. I will wait.)

And what is the name of the beast? Writers block. Is that even possible? I have journal upon journal from my days in elementary school, high school and college. Hold on, let me be honest here, I am exaggerating a little bit. I have a couple of journals for each of those periods in my life. I suppose I have about 6 complete journals (somehow I have never managed to complete one as an adult). And, in each I always started out writing daily, then it was every other day dwindling down to once a month and finally once a year.

So why am I questioning my current situation? I had the initial rush of doing something new and exciting. Is that wearing off? No, it is still new and exciting but it is becoming a bit overwhelming. Because blogging isn’t just about writing is it?

Blogging is about being introduced to other bloggers, reading their words and interacting by commenting. Of course there are folks that lurk and never comment but most folks (at least in the beginning) comment and welcome reciprocal comments.

Thus, I find myself in a dilemma. Everyday I read a new blogger, a new blogger is added to my reader and more time is spent blogging. I don’t have that time. I am raising a son, doing consulting work and trying to build a business.

But you know what, I will continue blogging and do all that it entails -reading, commenting and of course writing. I suppose I don’t have writers block after all. I just had a small case of trepidation because I am adding one more thing to my list of things to do in my role as mommy, wife, and daughter. This was a fleeting moment because I know I will don the superwoman cape once again. And love every minute of it.

I know how you feel. There are so many things to do in a day, and blogging can take up a lot of time!

Some bloggers I know of take a full on approach and want to build their readership to extraordinary levels in the shortest amount of time. If they have the time and the energy to accomplish that, more power to them! That's not me. I started blogging as a way to get back into the practice of writing and wanted a way to force myself to write a little bit every day. I'm happy with building a readership slowly over time and hopefully I'll eventually be able to write for $$ someday.

I don't think it's possible to have a brilliant post idea every day (at least not for me.) For days like that I'll just do a picture or a meme (my favorite.) and sometimes I'll just write about the fact that I don't have anything great to say. I think you're doing quite well for having such a new blog, baby!

Some days I don't post anything in my blog, but sometimes I may do 2 or three posts in one day. Just have fun and post what you want and what's going on in your life. We enjoying hearing from you. :)

There is a limit to the number of blogs one can read. I have started to be more selective and also to move around more.

It is nice to have readers but it also takes a bit of the personal touch away when you see blogs that are getting hundreds of comments.

I also read blogs that I don't put on my blogroll. Just trying to keep things simple. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog

I sooo relate... I quit blogging almost two years ago because I didn't have time... My first blog was how I was just going to blog for me and not go searching out friends so that I might have a readership... well I am here reading your blog and commenting so I have to say my plan hasn't worked out so well!!!
LOL I feel the same way. I never can think of much to write .. It just has to come to me. And when it does I just cant stop. Blog for you and only you ... the rest will follow !!

This is so true. People think blogging is easy, but to REALLY do it, it takes so much time. Time spent reading, and writing, and commenting, over and over again...not to mention how hard it gets when you are blocked!

This is my daily struggle:)

I know exactly how you feel. Blogging can take on a life of it's own. I have 42 feeds in my reader right now. There are an average of 35 updates daily. There is NO way I can keep up with that. But I try the best I can. I have the ones that are most important to me grouped together and I get to the others when time (aka my kids) allow me too.

I've started keeping a list of possible topics as they come to me that way I if I get blocked I can blog about those - and if I'm feeling inspired I might write 2-3 posts at a time and just log the dates to the future and they pop up the next day or how ever far out I set them.

Hang in there!

I understand. It happens to us all. It's very hard when you are starting out. What sucks even more is if you ever have to move links and yeah... starting over. LOL! :) Cute profile picture.

Thank you for stopping by my blog the other day (the rose picture). Yes, I am in a "fealing guilty" mode lately about blogging. I have decided to add approximately 20 bloggers or so to my list. I try to read them at least once a week instead of every day. I am getting back to scheduling myself now and on my schedule I am placing a 30 minutes blogging window. I also keep in my purse a notebook in which I keep ideas of things to blog or things I would like to take pictures of. This has really helped me from sitting down at my computer each day and spending 3 hours a day.

Keep being honest in your blog and you will notice readers will stay.
