A #GivingTuesday gift guide for gifts that give!

Today is #GivingTuesday, a global day for giving back. Today we celebrate generosity and giving to others. In honor of #GivingTuesday I wanted to share some of my favorite things that all benefit others - with a purchase, a promise or education. I hope you gain inspiration from this post or decide in another way to express the spirit of giving today on #GivingTuesday and for the rest of your life!

FASHION

One.org
There are so many things to love about One.org that I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve been an advocate for this global organizations for many years and do everything I can to support them, from visits to my Congressman on Capital Hill to attending the conference for girl’s and women last year. One.org has an online giftshop that highlights items from organizations it works with on the ground in countries like Ethiopia and Kenya. You must visit and purchase! I have been totally in love with my Genet scarf from FashionAble made by women in Ethiopia and wear it everywhere. Sadly I lost it earlier this year but am not getting a replacement as a gift for Christmas. In addition to items from FashionAble, you can shop for an Indego basket made by women artisans in Rwanda, purchase a One.org beaded bracelet made participants in the non-profit Relate based in South Africa that provides economic empowerment through employment of individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS. There are so many wonderful products in the ONE.org shop, I highly encourage you to shop there!

Coca-Cola 5 x 20

As a blogger, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many brands and Coca-Cola is one of my favorite ones. Although I am not a drinker of soft drinks, Coca-Cola has such expansive product lines that even a healthy living person like me can make great choices when it comes to beverages. I am particularly fond of Dasani water. But in addition to the products, I have always been impressed by Coca-Cola’s commitment to making a difference in the communities that it serves globally.

Coca-Cola’s  5by20 is it’s commitment to economically empower 5 million women entrepreneurs across the global by 2020. Many of these women are artisans who repurpose beverage packaging into beautiful items. I had the wonderful opportunity over the summer to visit Coca-Cola and meet some of the artisans and non-profit organizations that this initiative is benefitting. This is the first holiday season the 5by20 artisan items have been available for purchase via the online Coke store. All purchases benefit the artisans and their communities directly (Coca-Cola does not profit). Many of the gifts are under $20.00 and make perfect teacher gifts!

BEAUTY

PLA Beauty
I am a beauty product junky and I have been in love with PLA (play) Beauty for years. I was introduced to the owner Stephanie as a blogger for the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta(CHOA). Stephanie lost her first daughter Bella when she was 18 days old who was cared for at CHOA. Stephanie developed the PLA Beauty line because of her love of fashion and beauty and proceeds from sales of her items benefit CHOA and other children’s hospitals where it is available. On an annual basis, Stephanie has days of beauty for some of the little girls hospitalized at CHOA and their mothers. I’ve attended one of the events and I can’t begin to tell you the joy it brings to the families. I consider Stephanie not only one of the strongest women I know but one of the kindest and most giving. Her makeup line is FLAWLESS. I use items from her collection almost every day and am always complimented. If you love beauty products AND want to make a difference, please consider making a purchase from PLA Beauty, you won’t be disappointed!

KIDS

Comfy Critters
Comfy Critters is a versatile plush toy designed to inspire the imaginations of boys and girls. It is the first huggable stuffed animal that is also a pillow and snuggable hooded blanket.  My son loves cuddly so I know this is going to one of his favorites.
I have had an affiliation with Children’s Hospital of Atlanta for many years, and this holiday season, Comfy Critters is partnering with the Atlanta Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital. During the month of December, Comfy Critters will donate one unit to the children at the hospital for each unit sold. Comfy Critters are available for $24.99 online use the promo code Buy1Give1 at checkout. I hope you decide to make a purchase for a child in your life and by doing so make a difference in the life of a child currently hospitalized.

Walls That Unite
ArtWare has a very special initiative that can help you introduce the concept of giving to others to the children in your life through art. ArtWare provides Walls That Unite tile craft kits for you to use at home as a project with your child or even as a party activity. Each kit has everything needed to design a tile. Once completed, you can mail or upload your images and artware produces the tiles. The tiles are then used for the projects intended, I received the Rwanda Literacy Project tile kit. My sons will be designing tiles with the A,B,C’s and they will be taken to Rwanda and displayed as a children’s literacy project. The kit contains information about the program and the country that I can share with the kids. Other kits include the Community Wall kit for Kenya and the Peace Wall Kit for Nepal. Kits prices range from $15.00 -$35.00

Health
Give With Your Heart -  Did you know that in the United States there are currently 120,000 people waiting for an organ transplant? Organize.org is an a mission to increase the amount of transplantable organs. In the past, signing up to be an organ donor required going to the DMV and really, who wants to do that? If you’d like to donate your organs, you can simply register at Organize.org. You can also learn more about organ donation and support the effort by joining in the twitter party this evening from 9PM - 10PM EST, using the hashtag #GIVEWithYourHeart!

Immunizations - Today, two life-saving vaccines will be donated to Shot@Life for every immunization administered at a Walgreens location nationwide.  The special “Get a Shot.
