Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday with Walmart

Growing up one of my favorite authors was Dr. Seuss. I started sharing his stories with my son before he was born with a take on his classic Oh The Places You Will Go titled “Oh, Baby, The Places you’ll Go.” March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’ birthday and on this date Read Across America events will take place in schools, libraries and you can even celebrate at home! In honor of his birthday, Walmart is providing a gift to you - Dr. Seuss books will be available at a discounted price from February 8th - March 14th.  Dr. Seuss beginner books that normally start at $8.99 will be $5,  board books which are normally priced at $4.99 will be $3.50 and The $14.95 Classic titles will be $10.

Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Dr. Seuss’ last book  is so motivational. And as true for all Dr. Seuss books, this book contains a message that can be useful at any age and I’ve given it as a gift for college graduates. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the book, Random House is launching the Kid’s You’ll Move Mountains Campaign.  Dr. Seuss Enterprises is conducting a nationwide search for kids 5-18 who move others by excelling in Science, Technology, Engineer, Arts and Math aka STEAMing ahead.

To enter, kids must write an essay on “How they will Move Mountains” in their select area of STEAM. Winners will be chosen in the following manner:

• Kids, parents and educators will vote on  www.kidsmovingmountains.com via a national social media campaign
• Top 10 of the popular social media vote will then be judged in each discipline
• Judges will vote on the final winners

• Judges include a Dr. Seuss Estate Expert, President of the NEA (a former Science  teacher), Goodyear Representative

One winner will be chosen in each of the five areas and an overall grand prize winner will be chosen. Prizes include:  

• (1) Grand prize winner to receive, in addition to  a $10,000 Scholarship Grant:

• Ride on Goodyear Blimp
• Trip to Seuss theme park at Universal Studios, Orlando FL (trip for 4, flights provided by JetBlue)

• (4) winners will receive a $5,000 Scholarship Grant

Contest begins  March 2, 2015 and the winners will be announced in May.

If you have a child who excells in STEAMing ahead, I suggest you encourage her/him to enter!
