Ode to the Big O
And by O I am referring to Oprah Winfrey. What were you thinking? Okay, now that we’ve cleared that up I want to talk about being a mom. For me and I am sure for many mothers being Mom has taken precedence over every other title held in life. I am Renée yes, but mommy first. I am wifey but even hubby calls me Mommy. College grad, Masters degree holder, Consultant - Mommy, Mommy, Mommy. So while I still maintain some semblance of my former life: independent, world traveler, spontaneous, fit and fabulous; I am truly a shadow of my former self.
I sat here pondering that for a few moments and realize that it doesn't have to be this way. There is no reason for me to go down the path that Gabrielle of Desperate Housewives is taking. I mean, have you seen her? The former high paid model turned mommy of two looks like your worst mommy moment nightmare. She admitted to Carlos that she is glad he is blind and can't see her! I truly believe that she is going to get her act together and I am working on mine too.
In honor of my former self I am having an O moment. You know how Oprah is on every cover of her magazine? And every month you ask- what gives Oprah? Well, clearly she has struggled with her body image and I think she uses the cover to honor herself.
So at risk of being seen as a narcissist, I am channeling Oprah and posting a recent picture of me that I think looks fabulous.
One day in the near future I will look like this everyday. And be 50 pounds lighter to boot! Thanks for the inspiration Oprah!
If you don't take the time to look great everyday why don't you try your hand at an Oprah moment. Post a picture of yourself that you love. Let me know when you do so I can see you in all of your glory. Let's call it "I Love Myself Meme." I can't wait to see the photos.
And speaking of shameless self-promotion, Cutie Booty Cakes is being featured today on Bizziemommy.com. Check it out!

And what's this 50 pounds crap????
I love your posts...always so inspirational and enlightening.
As for my own picture...maybe one day I'll be brave enough to post one... =).
You didn't lose yourself Renee, it's just all covered up in diapers and toys somewhere; you just gotta find it!
We need to acknowledge of sense of Self, find a way to be fulfilled, content, and HAPPY with ourselves... otherwise, we're not being the great role models we want to be for our children, and we are not giving them our Very Best...
So don't call yourself Narcissistic, its imperative to look at yourself and love the person you are... that breeds self-confidence and provides a great role model for your children to follow your lead!
Nice post!
Your pic is great, too.
I will post a pic of me in the little, black dress when Tina nears. :)
PS: Thanks for sending readers to my post Hatred in Small-Town America - I appreciate the help in getting the message out.
Love,
Jlo
I have been dreading doing a post like this because it is very true that once you become Mommy, that's just it. Even other people start referring to you as so and so's mommy, lol. Just a sign of how much we love our children, the self sacrifice that we are constantly making. But all hope is not lost. We are still the women we have always been and it is up to us to show the world.
I will definitely be tackling this photo meme this week!!
And Darhling? You look marhvelous....(said in my best Billy Crystal voice)

i've hear people take issue with oprah putting herself on the cover of all issues of her magazine. it's never phased me one way or the other, but i like your take on it: a way to honor herself.
Congrats on the interview. You rock as always.
There are pics of me all over my blog. Maybe not so many Oprah moments, but surely no mommy moment nightmares either, I hope.
Lookin' good!
Oprah is certainly an inspirational woman.
I love your picture. You look wonderful. Maybe I'll make myself up and take a snapshot. Maybe if only to remind myself that I am still here. ; )
