Cranberry Sauce Recipe

My family and I do not “celebrate” Thanksgiving but we do take the time to give thanks for all of the blessings we have received. As a young child I learned that celebrating the devastating consequences of the pilgrims breaking bread with the Native Americans was not something we could do, especially since my family does have Native American roots. But we do eat, drink and be merry with all of the traditional foods of the season including turkey, stuffing, sweet potato pie, etc. One of the things that most of us do NOT eat is cranberry sauce. That gelatinous mass in a can is not something that graces our table. However, I am far from opposed to eating cranberry sauce made from real cranberries!

A few years ago my best friend’s husband made some cranberry sauce and I just could not get enough! This year I decided to try my hand at this tasty treat to see if I could replicate his efforts! And I am not only happy to say that I was successful but it making cranberry sauce is so simple that I am not sure why I didn’t try to do it before!

All you need are some fresh cranberries which I found easily at my local Walmart in the fresh produce area. For my recipe you will also need an orange or tangerine plus water and sugar. Easy as pie!

I hope that you decide to make cranberry sauce too because I am telling you it is absolutely NOTHING like that canned mess. I refuse to even look at a can of cranberry sauce, making my own is both fulfilling and totally delicious. Without further ado, I share my cranberry sauce recipe and be on the lookout because later this week I will be sharing my special sweet potato pie recipe. I struggled with sharing it because it always receives rave reviews but I think you’ll appreciate it and your family will too!

Renée’s Cranberry Sauce

Place water and sugar in medium sized sauce pan. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add cranberries and orange peel to liquid, bring to boil. Refrigerate until ready to serve ( I let it return to room temperature before serving). ENJOY!!!!
