Wordful Wednesday

Birthday parties are fun right? Well, Mekhi was invited to a birthday party and he played by himself the whole time. The birthday boy did the same. I wasn't even able to get a photo of them together for the future. Perhaps I can find someone with photoshop to put them together in a frame.

Despite the independent play, I do think he looks adorable in the birthday hat. He enjoyed himself most of the time but I attribute his intermitent fussiness that day to the 100 degree heat. Living in Atlanta in the summer can be treacherous!

Awww, yes he is extremely cute in his hat =).

Independent play sounds like a fun birthday party to me, however, I do not envy your heat. We just got a break from the heat in the Bay Area.

The hat coordinates with his shirt. Did you have something to do with that? ;)

Tell me if you still enjoy those parties after you've been to 5 in one weekend. (it will happen mark my word) I think I'm going to limit the amount of friends my kid have to 1 a piece.

Cute pic! He does look cute in that hat! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am excited to read more of yours.

Looks like you captured him at the perfect moment Renee, beautiful picture.

Both of mine were quite content to play independently and then interact for a spurt, go back to play alone, interact and so on. I guess that's how they learn the important skill of socialization (in doses). Works best for me!

As long as everybody had fun and it sounds like they did!

Very cute! I think it's hard to have a party at that age in terms of all of the kids playing together. I think it can be overwhelming for them--so much stimulation. They get it later though.

I look forward to seeing your photos, he is such a cutie. Oddly enough I don't think kids at that age play interactively as much as they do independently but in the general vicinity. Happy Wednesday.

Hi there! Came over from Angie's WW. I'd want to play by myself if it was 100 outside too!
despite him not playing witht he other kids, at least he was happy...and vute too! i love his shirt! i always wanted to dress boys...but with 4 girls, it's not likely.

Kids are so funny at this age! They love being around each other but play separately. Cowboy is in preschool this year & I got a chance to watch the kids a little on the playground before picking him up the other day. The girls are doing group play, but all the boys are still in parallel-play (4 and 5 years old).

Your son, my goodness, is too cute. I just love his baby face!

I think the playing alone is sometimes the age. My son has done the same thing at birthday parties before. I think it is because he is, for the most part, used to playing alone.
Very cute!

So cute. Looks like he's doing fine on his own.

He's absolutely adorable!

Independent play is very normal for this age.

Intermittent fussiness in 100 degree heat? Yup. Even 90 degrees makes me cranky. Okay, so I'm cranky anyway.

that is ok he is still too little for co-playing, Will now plays(actually fights over toys) so that is what you have to look forward to when they start playing I mean fighting.

He certainly does look cute! And I always say, as long as they're happy (within reason) let 'em do what they want. I would probably have been a bit fussy, too, if I were in that heat!

He is a cutie! I bet they both had fun in their own ways. I agree 100 plus temps make it hard to enjoy a party.

I love the hat! I'm glad he had fun! A lot of kids don't play together too much at that age. Give them a year or two!!

Children are so funny. He will get past the playing by himself. For now, enjoy is independence.

What an adorable photo. He looks like the curious type.

Yes, he does look cute. It's funny how they play like that when they're that age. Soon enough he'll be running and ripping with his friends.
