Guilty Pleasure

My Guilty Pleasure

I have a guilty pleasure and I hate to admit it. I am just going to say it. I love reality tv. It dates back to the Real World the show that started it all (unless of course you want to count Candid Camera – but really that was more about practical jokes. Okay, I am taking a detour here because as I said before – I hate to admit this). I don’t watch just any show, I have to take a
stance when it comes to shows like Paradise Hotel (okay, I admit I recently watched a couple of episodes but ONLY because a childhood friend is the executive producer for the show (and the station) and we were discussing this at our reunion in April and (oh, I am digressing again). I have digressed so much I am not sure where this trip is taking me. And where or how do I close the original parenthesis? Okay moving on. I watch Survivor, the Amazing Race, the Real World (it is not very high on my list, I missed the season finale and could care less), and the worst – I admit to watching I Love New York, The Flavor of Love and Charm School.

I’ve made this admission because last night I watched the season finale of So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD). This is a show that I have no regrets or shame about watching. I love to dance and watching the show brings back memories of my dancing days. As a matter of fact I have watched every season and right before I got pregnant the show inspired me to get up off of my lazy behind and take classes (which I did up until I was 22 weeks pregnant and placed on modified bed rest). But let’s get back to the show.

SYTYCD was phenomenal and I believe that this has been the best season yet. If you have not been watching the show you can get recaps on Vérité Parlant’s blog Whose Shoes Are These Anyway? . Her descriptions are so vivid you will virtually feel like you are watching the show. Although I have enjoyed all of the season finales this one was truly remarkable because 2 of the 4 finalists were untrained hip-hop dancers, a SYTYCD first. In previous seasons the hip-hop dancers are canned early on but this year it was a battle to the end (last night the guys did actually battle with a Russion street dance). Perhaps now you may understand why I had to watch the show. Yes, I recorded it too but I had to see it in real time as it happened. Which leads me to why this is my guilty pleasure.

Once the show came on EVERYTHING ELSE STOPPED. Fully aware that this would happen I fed my son before the show (didn’t want to have CPS on my back), prepared a space for him next to me on the couch hoping that he would be as entertained as I was sure to be. And just in case his attention waned I had numerous toys available for him to play with until bedtime.

After all of these preparations I realized I had to bathe him. So, we made our way upstairs and I decided to bathe him in the master bath. That way I could hear what was happening on SYTYCD even if I had difficulty seeing the show. Okay, I admit it. His bath was short, sweet and to the point. We were in and out of there in about 6 minutes.

I also have to admit that he had a bed time holiday last night. Because really, I could not miss great dancing while I put him to sleep. We watched the show, I played around with him, read him a book ( I did all of this while watching the show so no he did not get my undivided attention but he did get attention damn it) and when ten o’clock (yes, yes I know) came around he was exhausted and asleep in 5 minutes flat.

There you have it. My guilty pleasure uncovered. Please don’t call CPS. It was one night people and by letting him stay awake he was able to see daddy come in from work. And isn’t that the right thing to do?

LOL!!! I swear, if I didn't know better, I would think I wrote this post. I am the same exact way. I love, love, love reality tv. The finale of SYTYCD was amazing. My poor babe was trying to get my attention for those two hours and just finally gave up and went to sleep.

Your son is adorable by the way.
I think if I told you had late all of my kids go to bed during the summer, you'd call CPS on me! :)

Your guy is definitely a cutie, thanks for the visit.

And the kids generally like to eat eggs. I got the egg molds to give Tita another option for her school lunch which she doesn't always eat.

My guys stay up till 10 every night- daddy doesn't get home until at least 9:30, so don't feel bad keeping him up late one night! Love those diaper cakes! Thanks for visiting my site too.

PS - Oh, okay, I admit it. We like this a bit, too, but only reality TV for old people (Dancing with the Stars! Wooooo!) that is ripped from British TV.

I am ashamed to admit it, but I used to date someone from Paradise Hotel Season 1 ...

Your son is so precious, but I know, mama needs some entertainment from time to time of the non-animated kind.

My guilty pleasure is I love new york and Flavor of Love too. I used to a big fan of Real World. Watched it from the very beginning, but these last few seasons could not hold my attention. The SYTYCD finale was really good. I really wanted Twitch to win. Btw, I tagged you. Hope you don't mind :)

Every season I tell my wife I am not going to watch Dancing with the Stars and every season it sucks me in. I used to watch Real World too. I wish they'd bring back a new Surreal Life, because that one is my favorite.

I would never call CPS on you...because all of us moms have done this at some point and time. You should've seen me at the beach last summer...

"Mommy? We're hungry!"
"Go get your Dad, I'm reading Twilight..."

"Mommy, can we go down to the beach now?"
"Go ask Daddy and Aunt Mandy...I'm reading New Moon..."

"Mommy, are you ever gonna play with us?"
"Yes...I'm sorry, my sweet girls...Mommy has been very selfish. I'll play with you. Right after I finish Eclipse..."

The End!

Ray and I love SYTYCD! Go Joshua! I think Ray wanted to run off with him. Any time another dancer came on, she'd ask, "Where's Joshua?" She would have been so bummed if he lost ;)

I think this was THE BEST YEAR ever for SYTYCD. We all watched both episodes and cheered and danced and loved it.

I am in awe of those kids and their sheer athleticism. I loved Josh and Twitch and would have been happy with either winning. I hope to see them both in the future.
